00 Proposed Start Date 07/17/2023 Estimated Duration of Appointment 4 months or less Position Information Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The Department of Environment of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (ESE) focuses on the interface between people and the environment with interdisciplinary programs in air quality, atmospheric processes, human exposure and health effects, and sustainable water resources, drawn from faculty expertise In the physical and life sciences engineering and policy.
The Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (ESE) is an academic and research department located in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and has 24 faculty, 29 joint and adjunct faculty, 14 administrative staff members, and 7 research staff members.
It has about 120 graduate students.
The mission of the Gillings School of Global Public Health is to improve public health, promote individual well-being, and eliminate health disparities across North Carolina and around the world.
Position Summary We are seeking a recent graduate to provide support to our teams working on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene projects for Summer and Fall 2023.
The Research Assistant will support research teams within Dr.
Manga's research group on projects related to analyzing datasets from on-going field studies and the Demographic Health Surveys (DHS).
This may include gathering datasets, data cleaning, coding, data analysis, interpretation of results and data visualizations.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities Create and maintain data analysis and management plans Clean data by coding missing data, handling miscoded data, transforming variables into more useful formats, and annotating the data in proper way Utilize specified statistical software to analyze and interpret research data, as appropriate to the research study Summarize results by creating tables, figures, and other visual representations for generation of reports and manuscripts Maintains appropriate records of research methods, coding procedures and results Identify potential data problems from analytic queries and bring them to the attention of the team Providing consultation and technical assistance for a wide variety of data-related tasks Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Strong analytical skills for collecting, analyzing, and reporting qualitative and quantitative data Ability to employ statistical models tailored to research questions and data sources Proficiency in at least one programming language, particularly R or STATA Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Knowledge and experience working with projects related to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Experience working with mWater, KoboCollect or any other mobile data collection forms Experience with using Demographic Health Survey data Special Physical/Mental Requirements Campus Security Authority Responsibilities Not Applicable.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
