00 Proposed Start Date 09/15/2023 Estimated Duration of Appointment 6 months not to exceed 11 months Position Information Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The UNC School of Government (SOG) engages in practical scholarship that helps public officials and citizens understand and improve state and local government.
The SOG offers up to 200 courses, webinars, and conferences for more than 12,000 public officials each year.
Faculty members annually publish approximately 50 books, reports, articles, bulletins, and other print and online content related to state and local government.
The SOG is also home to a nationally ranked graduate program in public administration and specialized centers focused on information technology, environmental finance, and criminal justice.
Position Summary The Lab seeks to promote a fair and effective criminal justice system, public safety, and economic prosperity.
It brings together a broad range of stakeholders to learn about criminal justice problems, supports their efforts to develop and implement innovative consensus solutions, and conducts empirical evaluations to help stakeholders measure the impact of their efforts.
Our work spans three areas:
1) producing foundational research, including legal research, research summaries, and original empirical research; 2) conducting pilot projects supporting stakeholders' efforts to develop, implement, and evaluate innovative solutions; and 3) creating ready-to-use legal and evidence-based tools like flowcharts, templates, procedures, forms.
Our work focuses on front end criminal justice issues, such as pretrial, policing, and overcriminalization, structural issues such as indigent defense, and the back end issues of reentry and second chances.
The Lab is seeking a Research Assistant to support a new evaluation of alternative responder programs in North Carolina (e.
g.
, a mental health clinician co-responding with a police officer to crisis calls).
The Research Assistant frequently will interact with other Lab team members, including the Lab's Data Analyst, Data Manager, Project Managers, Research Director, and Director, as well as affiliated researchers and stakeholder clients.
Duties include:
Cleaning and coding various types of data (including court, police, dispatch, and jail records); Linking data sources to create analytic datasets; Conducting analyses; Interpreting findings; Report drafting; and Communicating project methods and findings for non-academic audiences.
Depending on the candidate's skills and interests, they may take on other tasks as other project or organizational needs arise.
We are seeking a candidate for the 2023-2024 school year who will be able to continue working on the project full or part time during the Summer of 2024.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Proficiency in programming and conducting analyses in Stata or R Ability to work in a nonpartisan, nonadvocacy environment Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program in public policy, political science, information science, statistics, public health, or a related field.
Experience with cleaning, managing, and analyzing large datasets (experience with criminal justice data preferred).

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
