00 per hour Proposed Start Date 08/28/2023 Estimated Duration of Appointment Occasional/Intermittent Position Information Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit Launched in 2013, the Department of Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is the first new science department in the College of Arts and Sciences in nearly 40 years.
Including the Chapel Hill Analytical and Nanofabrication Laboratory (CHANL) and the graduate program in material sciences, Applied Physical Sciences has united numerous scientific entities on campus to further its mission of finding interdisciplinary solutions to real-world problems.
Its newest endeavor, BeAM (Be A Maker), is a university-wide initiative that incorporates Making into research, education, and entrepreneurship.
BeAM is comprised of several spaces, including a makerspace in Hanes Art Center, Carmichael Residence Hall, and a 3,400 square foot Makerspace in Murray Hall, all of which serve the entire UNC community.
Position Summary The Applied Physical Sciences department at UNC-Chapel Hill seeks a part-time communications specialist to develop and manage web content, social media communications, newsletter and a variety of marketing and communications projects for the APS department and BeAM makerspaces.
The role will first develop an up-to-date communications strategy for APS and BeAM and then continue to set, in consultation with APS/BeAM leadership, the overall communications strategy.
The communications specialist is expected to develop content and provide design oversight for APS/BeAM communications, including website, e-communications, publications and social media.
Responsibilities Create and manage content as appropriate for APS and BeAM websites for our target audiences, including current and prospective undergraduate students, current and prospective graduate students, alumni, faculty, potential donors and the University community, as well as makerspaces and materials science departments around the country.
Lead development and implementation of APS/BeAM communications strategy.
Once implemented, continually improve APS/BeAM communications strategy to promote the initiatives and research efforts of APS/BeAM and publicize achievements through blog posts, video and appropriate social media channels.
Create flyers, posters, newsletters, and other print or digital documents as needed to publicize courses and events.
Work with faculty, graduate students, BeAM leadership and staff to develop stories around successes like publications, fellowships, grant awards.
Publish the stories on the website and broadcast through social media.
Learn RiseVision software and manage digital signage content for APS and BeAM.
Social media (Twitter) and LinkedIn:
o Schedule and plan social media posts to add fresh content regularly throughout the year.
o Track and respond to constituent interactions on social media, when appropriate.
o Analyze the appropriate social media data/metrics to assess growth and effectiveness of each platform; generate ideas to increase engagement; and research effective social media strategies at other universities or relevant institutions.
o Identify and promote relevant events on social media.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Outstanding writing, copyediting/proofreading, online research and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficient in creating and editing web content, including graphics, images and embedded media using WordPress.
Ability to write concise, active and engaging digital-based copy, and edit copy for a digital platform.
Proficient in generating custom content using Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign.
Comfort working both independently and with team members.
Experience creating social media, and/or multimedia posts.
Experience using Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+, YouTube and related communication tools to reach targeted audiences.
Highly responsive to high priority requests and ability to make progress on requests in a timely manner.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Experience managing social media for an institution, organization or business.
Graphic design experience and familiarity with its basic principles.
A knowledge of basic marketing principles.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
