THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY IS RECRUITING FOR 4 PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER POSITIONS. YOU MUST APPLY TO ALL POSITION NUMBERS (0033615, 0018841, 0053855, and 0053292) TO BE CONSIDERED.
The main purpose of this position is to protect and serve the students, faculty and staff and visitors of UNC Chapel Hill through law enforcement and crime prevention. The selected candidate will patrol campus and investigate complainants and violations of state laws and local ordinances using the Community Oriented Policing philosophy. This person also develops and implements preventative patrol techniques and performs specialized duties to deter crime and promote effective safety and security practices.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Certification as a Law Enforcement Officers in accordance with the provisions of NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission is required.
Applicants who are not eligible for immediate certification will be expected to attend a 5-6 month full time BLET course delivery. Those candidates will be expected to successfully complete BLET, pass the state BLET written exam and achieve immediate certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provision of NC Criminal Justice Education Training and Standards Commission.
- Candidate must be at least 20 years of age at time of appointment
- Posses a valid NC drivers license
- Pass an in-depth background investigation, which includes
drivers history and criminal
history with no felony convictions
- Psychological testing
- Polygraph examination
- Drug screening
- Physical
Must successfully complete a three-week department orientation course and a twelve week department field training program during probationary period for public safety officers.
The selected candidate must possess the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing and deal with the public and representatives of the criminal justice system in a professional manner.
The selected candidate for this position will be considered ESSENTIAL emergency duty employee. This means that the position is one that is necessary to ensure University operations continue uninterrupted during periods of adverse weather and/or other emergency situations, including those that require the University to close. As such an employee in this position will be required to report to work according to their usual schedule or upon notification to report outside of usual work schedule.
Work Schedule: 48 hours one week, 36 hours second week, rotating shifts & dupont scheduleEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
